Particularly if you edit your file down to a table of data (hopefully with
column headers!), Excel may astound you with its intuition. From Excel's
menu bar, File Open. In the dialog, set the 'files of type' drop-down at
the bottom to 'text files.' Then find your file and open it. Again, if the
file content is a table, Excel will perform once of those rare 'do what I
mean' tricks.

When you do the file open as suggested you will get a text import wizard.
You need to select fixed length or delimited as required. Excel will make
a choice based on the file structure. It's not always right. If you select
fixed width it will let you set the column width. Delimited will set
the width base on a character or space. You can also mark columns not to be
imported so you don't get any unwanted data. Make sure to keep a copy of
your text file intact. You may have to experiment a bit to get the results
you need. Post back if you need more help.
