Default Excel 2000 error message

While working in Excel 2000, I get this error message OFTEN:

Microsoft Excel for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any ideas why this occurs? I am not working in complicated spreadsheets.

thank you

Default Excel 2000 error message

Trying to isolate a little......

Is this something that has just started happening recently.......before was
ok?

Does this occus on any file, even new ones, or only on certain ones?

Are you on a network?...if so, do others have the same problem?

not a recent problem, I have been trying to isolate the problem and it seems
to happen in files that have links. When the file is opened, the message "do
you want to update links" does not appear but if you go into view links,
there are some there. I have tried to range value all the data to try and
remove links, has not helped. I have tried to locate the cell with the link
formula, no luck.
We are on a network and one other person who uses excel all day like I do
has had the error, just not as often.
