Thumbs up Answer: Is a transparent color fill possible?

Making Color Fill Transparent in Excel 2003
  1. Select the cells or rows/columns that you want to fill with color.
  2. Right-click on the selection and choose "Format Cells" from the context menu.
  3. In the "Format Cells" dialog box, go to the "Patterns" tab.
  4. Under "Pattern," choose the color that you want to use for the fill.
  5. Under "Pattern Style," choose "None."
  6. Click on the "OK" button to apply the changes.

This will give you a transparent color fill that allows you to see the gridlines running through the cells. If you want to adjust the transparency level, you can use the "Transparency" slider under "Fill Effects" in the "Format Cells" dialog box.
