Default EXCEL SPREADSHEET FORMAULS

I COPY AND PASTE A FORMULA THAT LOOKS LIKE THIS =VLOOKUP($C577,'RELAY
SPECS'!$A$2:$U$299,14) AND IT GIVES ME THE CORRECT ANSWER IF i CHANGE IT
MAUALLY TO =VLOOKUP($C577,'RELAY SPECS'!$A$2:$U$299,15)
IT JUST GIVES ME THE FORMULA, IF I CHANGE IT BACK MANUALLY TO 14 IT ALSO
GIVES ME THE FORMULA??? I AM USING EXCEL 2003 WITH WINDOWS XP

Default EXCEL SPREADSHEET FORMAULS

(a) turn off caps lock (though it won't help with the answer!)
(b) format the cells as general before pasting - they will be text at
the moment.
