Default Excel 2003 does not recognize "no fill" from older Excel

After installing MS Office Basic 2003 on 2 workstations, Excel doesn't seem
to recognize the "No Fill" format options on my existing Excel spreadsheets.
How can I get Excel 2003 to not fill in between the drawn lines without going
to each drawing on all of my spreadsheets and individually removing the
shadow effect that wasn't put there in the first place?
