Default Numerical problems...

If I copy and paste an equation I have in Word to Excel, when I hit enter
instead of giving me a value the whole equation is crammed into the cell. Is
this because it is from Word or is the equation most likely missing something?

You probably copy over a text format as well or spaces, click in the formula
bar and paste in there and make sure there are no leading/trailing spaces
