Default How do I maintain values in a template?

I have created an Excel Template which contains Data Validation to limit the
text length. However, when I copy the template to a new worksheet, I lose
the data validation. How can I maintain this so that a user does not have to
re-enter the data validation? Thanks!

Did you save it as a template and do the users open it under filenew and
select templates and from there open it? If so it will work, the whole idea
is that you don't open the template but a copy named after the template and
a number
Anyway, it works but with all datavalidation there are restrictions, any
user can copy over values that exceed the limits you put in the validation.
Regardless, even if you are not using a template file and just copy a sheet
with validation it should work

Hi Mary

If the validation is purely text length, then it should work fine. If,
however, there is any data validation which refers to lists, then those
lists would have to be held on the same sheet that is being opened from
the template, or be contained in another workbook that is open when you
are trying to use the data validation in the template.

Roger:

Thanks for your response. I was not using a list in this case but will keep
your info and link for future reference. Got my immediate answer from
another user. I appreciate your helpful information.
