Default Formula error

As I am typing an IF statment, I entered the symbol "" for greater than.
Excel entered "GT" in the formula. Of course, I got a name error. Has anyone
seen this or know how to fix it?

Maybe it's autocorrect jumping in.

Tools|autocorrect options|autocorrect tab

Look for in the left hand box.

If you find it, delete it.
