Default COUNTIF - I THINK

I'M TRYING TO GET A COUNT FROM A COLUMN D OF ALL THE TIMES "CHP" APPEARS
USING THE FOLLOWING FUNCTION

=COUNT(IF((MSL!O:O="1")*(MSL!D:D="CHP"),MSL!D:D))

I'M LOST...ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

Default COUNTIF - I THINK

Such formulas do not admit whole column references:

1.

=COUNT(IF(MSL!$O$2:$O$300=1,IF(MSL!$D$2:$D$300="CH P",1)))

which needs to be confirmed with control+shift+enter, not just with enter.

2. Alternatively...

=SUMPRODUCT(--(MSL!$O$2:$O$300=1),--(MSL!$D$2:$D$300="CHP"))

which needs just enter.

=countif(msl!d:d,"chp")
