Default Excel - need a function to compare lists

At work I am constantly using VLOOKUP to compare one long list to other lists
to determine common elements or differences between the lists. I need a
simple function that will let me input two lists (named ranges?) and an
argument to output items in the first list that are common to the second
list, or items that are not common. In other words, I think, the ability to
AND the lists or OR the lists, to use Boolean terms. The final argument
would probably have to be an output range.
