Default unable to open file

When trying to open an emailed excel file, I get the error message, "unable
to read file", Then another box appears stating "file is locked for editing
by another user". I am using Excel 2003 and am really bugged by this
problem. the same file is sent to about 8 other people, none of whom have the
same problem that I do. Any help with this problem will be greatly
appreciated.

Search your computer for the filename...you might find there is another
one on your computer (in a temp directory) with the same name. Delete
the one in the temp directory. Also check all of the other places
Excel might store another copy of the file...sometimes if Excel crashes
while working on a file, it will give you that error...however, it
usually figures itself out after a reboot.

Default unable to open file

I have a user who wants to receive the message, "This excel file is locked
for editing by user x, do you wish to use it read only or be notified when
not in use", Everyone seems to know OF this message but not how to configure
it.

You cannot configure that message without having another user open the workbook
first.
