Default Protecting Cells

I have created a template in Word with a formatted table with
mathematical formulas that I pasted from an excel worksheet. There are
specific cells within the table that I would like to protect, as other
cells require data entry from authorized users of the program. Can I
protect the cells from the excel worksheet while in Word or do I need
to do that in Excel before pasting. Also, which menu offers protection
on specific cells..(Protect sheet; allow users to edit ranges; protect
workbook; or protect and share workbook)?
