Default Excel files take long time to open

I just upgraded to office 2007. I have files that were created in older
versions of excel. Some of them contain macros and some don't. When I go to
my documents folder and double click on an excel file, it takes about 30 to
45 seconds to open. I have Windows XP operating system. Any suggestions.
one thing, when I have an excel file already open, then the rest open up very
fast.
