Default Drop down list - color coding

I have a spreadsheet and want my drop down list of names to be color coded. I
have the orginal list color coded and when I created my list, the color
disappeared. How can I reinstate into the drop down list.

Using Data Validation dropdown list?

Cannot be formatted as you wish.

Best you can get is to color the cell using Conditional Formatting after an
item has been selected.

Easier with Excel 2007 because you can apply up to 64 conditions.

Earlier versions would require event code if more than 3 conditions need to
be met.
