Default DSUM using alpha numeric codes

using Excel 2007, I am having difficulty trying to dsum values where the
criteria is for greater than one alpha numeric code and less than another
alpha numeric code.
e.g sum for items greater than or equal to nadaa00-N1 and less than or
equal to
nadab00-N0 - items to be included are shown with an * )

nadab00-N0 100 *
nadab00-N1 20
nadaa01-N1 10 *
nadaa00-N0 40
nadaa00-N1 25 *
