How do I turn off the automatic 'virus check' that runs each time I open an

Excel has no antivirus feature.
It only has the ability to prevent VBA code from running. Read the help file included with your antivirus software. In older versions of Norton, you could disable the spreadsheet virus check with a few button clicks. This should be an option in your antivirus software. NOT excel.
