Default Can't save Excel spreadsheets

I have spreadsheets on an external drive (GS Drive L:). I access the info on
this "thumbdrive" on two computers, one desktop and one laptop. If I try to
save an updated version of an Excel spreedsheet in the desktop, I get the
message that "Excel has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" and I
cannot save anything new. If I use the laptop and try to save an updated
version.....no problem. It saves it just fine. Any suggestions?
