Default equals merged cells

I have 2 sheets in a workbook. Sheet 1 has cells C1, D1, E1 merged, with
text in the merged cell. In sheet 2, cells E1,F1,G1 are merged. I want the
cells on sheet 2 to equal the text in sheet one, but if I type =, then click
on cells in sheet 1, I get a value# error. Can anyone help? Doesn't seem as
if it should be difficult.

Thanks!

Default equals merged cells

I just tried it in XL 2000, and it worked for me (though merged cells
are not recommended).

Best not to use merged cells. The archives of this group will show you
countless reasons not to.

But if E1 in Sheet 2 contains the formula =Sheet1!C1, it shouldn't return a
#VALUE! error unless Sheet1!C1 contains a #VALUE! error.
