I have a doc that contains both merged and unmerged cells and need to be able
to sort it alphabetically. When I try, I get a message saying that all merged cells need to be sized identically. I have tried resizing the cells, but this does not solve the problem. Any suggestions? |

Getting rid of merged cells causes you to lose data. I am using a template
and didn't merge any cells. didn't even know there were any merged cells until I had entered ALL the data and tried to sort. "FSt1" wrote: hi might be best to get rid of the merged cells. No, merging cells causes loss of data. Unmerging cells puts blank cells
where you hadn't noticed them before. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ "BarbMac" wrote in message ... Then you have to select the exact range to sort, without including header
row and total row. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ "BarbMac" wrote in message ... Getting rid of merged cells does NOT cause any loss of data.
Merging cells will cause loss of data. Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Mon, 9 Jun 2008 06:41:01 -0700, BarbMac wrote: Getting rid of merged cells causes you to lose data. It doesn't mean height and width of the cells, it means number of rows and
columns of cells in a merged cell. I'll be the third to say, get rid of the merged cells. They cause more problems than this. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ "KellyH" wrote in message ... What data did you lose by unmerging cells? It doesn't work that way. The
data in a merged cell will be retained in the top left cell of the unmerged cells that had been merged. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ "BarbMac" wrote in message ...
