This is a little strange. I have exported data from one of our applications
into Excel. I'm trying to total a range of numbers but it's just giving me '0'. I've formated the number cells to be 'numbers' and I've made sure the cell i'm putting the 'SUM' formula in is formatted as 'general'. but it's still not working. Anyone know what else I could try ? There has to be something simple I'm overlooking. Thank in advance ! |

Those numbers you have exported/imported could still be text -
changing the format (of the cell) will not change their value. A quick way to change them is to highlight the numbers then click on Data | Text-to-columns and then click Finish on the first panel. Hope this helps. Well, I found a work-around to export the data into a new spreadsheet, it
seems to be behaving now. The web-app must have done something to mess with the data on the previous attempts. "scott" wrote: Unfortunately, that didn't work. ...thanks for trying though. Okay, well I'm glad you found a way to get it to work.

If the source data comes from HTML tables, it likely includes nonbreaking spaces. Text to Columns doesn't remove nonbreaking spaces. |
