Default Can't view all text in a cell

I have a cell that has a lot of data in it (all text). When I click on the
cell, I can read all of the text in the function box (at the top of the
screen), however, if I click on an alternate cell, the last 5-10 lines of
data from the cell in question disappear. I've tried expanding the width of
the cell, to no avail, and that particular cell is set to the same format as
the others (which also have a large amount of text in them, though not as
much as this one). Expanding the length of the cell increases what I can see,
but it's not practical. What am I doing wrong?

Try adding alt-enters (to force new lines within the cell) every 80-100
characters. You should be able to see more characters.

I think this quote is in the wrong order, because the first phrase is
the answer to the question.

You're playing with the edge of practicality, even if the technical
side is still ok (meaning Excel didn't just chop off some of the
text). At some point, you start running into not-foreseen issues. And
you may find workarounds like Dave suggested, you'll have to decide
what is practical.

Eventually, you'll likely either have to spread it to other cells or
leave Excel and open a program made for so much text. Word comes to
mind.
