Default VLOOKUP selecting, not highlighting

When using the VLookup function the user selects the table array data. The
trouble is, the selected area only *highlights* (as in a cut/copy procedure)
and not *selects* (for the VLookup function). That is, the user isn't getting
the dotted blinking lines around the array of data to pull from.

Computer has Office 2003 SP3. Everyone else in the user's group has the same
version of Office and can perform this function normally.

Suggestions?

Thanks.
