Default How do I enter accumulated time as hours, minutes and seconds?

I'm timing myself running laps. I want to enter in my lap times in hours,
minutes and seconds. Example:

24 minutes 28 seconds, put in as either 00:24:28 or 24:28

I then want to average out my lap times in the same format. Can anyone help
me?

Enter your time of 24 minutes and 28 seconds as 00:24:38. If you enter it as
24:28, Excel will interpret that as 24 hours and 28 minutes.
You should be able to use the AVERAGE function and format the result as
hh:mm:ss or simply mm:ss
