Default Problem using Import External Data

I have a number of Excel spreadsheets in different locations and I would like
to have a centralised spreadsheet that dynamically updates and allows me to
view the data in one place.

I am using the DataImport External DataImport Data feature
Selecting the relevant file and sheet, using default import options
(including maintaining cell formatting)

When I complete the task, the data is imported in the sheet but all numeric
and date fields are not imported, only text fields are displayed and also the
cell formatting has not been ported into the new sheet. However, the text if
updated in the data supply spreadsheets it does update where the spreadsheet
the data has been imported into so the external data link does work but just
does not work for dates and numerical cells?

Anybody have any ideas how I can get this to work?

Best Regards

John Kyle
