Default Autofilter shuts off

I am having an intermittent probelm with autofilter:
It is turned on and working properly. However, it will, without warning,
stop working (stop working means when I click on the drop arrow nothing
happens). If I hit the delete key, the autofiter disappears from the sheet.
I will then need to unhide the cells if necessary, then reactivate autofilter
(sometimes I need to reactivate and deactivate a few times for it to start
working). Can anyone shed some light on this, or does anyone know a fix?

Might be a System Resources type problem........not enough RAM, too many
programs running, etc etc..........

The problem will exist on intital start up, with no other programs running,
on a spreadsheet that is 736KB in size, and does not occur any more
frequently when I have 10 spreadsheets open that are each greater than 10MB
in size, plus email and our accounting system and internet explorer... My IT
department doesn't seem to have any answer either; they have reinstalled 2003
a couple of times and changed out my computer completely.

It sounds like this is not a very common problem.

According to all that MIS has done for you, and if the trouble is only
exhibited with just the one .xls file........no doubt somehow it is
corrupted. Sometimes the only way out of situations like these is to copy
the data out to another new workbook, a little at a time and keep checking
the new book for the trouble to see when it "might" be transferred to the new
book......if it doesn't, GREAT, you've beat the problem, if it does, at least
you have isolated just where the problem is and can perhaps reconstruct just
that part.........
