Try it in this sequence ..
First, you need to "unlock" all cells in the sheet. Select the entire sheet, click Format Cells Protection tab Uncheck "Locked" OK. Now select only the cells that you want protected (Hold down CTRL to select multiple cells/ranges). Click Format Cells Protection tab Check "Locked" OK. Then apply sheet protection via Tools Protection Protect Sheet Password?
