Default If Statements

Hi,
I need to know how to write and "if" or sumif statement that would cover the
following:
I have a pivot table that changes the amount of cells it occupies depending
on what the user selects to see. In column B there may be 5 names or 30 names.
I want to use formula (let's put it in cell d5) that would look at how many
cells have numbers in them in the b column (UP TO TEN) and total those
numbers.
Then in another cell (d6) I want to separately total remaining cells
b11:b15, or b11:b30, again depending on what's there.
thanks for your help.
