Default conditional formatting of date

i have a column 'target date' in my excel sheet. this column contains my
target date for my jobs. i want to display the dates in red color for those
entries that are older than today.

i.e. if today is 12/28/2006
target date
12/29/2006
12/26/2006 -- this cell in red

how to do it automatically? Thanks in advance
