Default Forecast function and Date option

We share files on a network. I use Office 2003, coworker '97. We had no
problem until I recieved a new Dell laptop (Latitude D620) also with Office
2003.

Now the formula for function FORECAST produces different (incorrect)
results. I can get the correct results using function GROWTH.

Finally figured a fix for the problem by checking the 1904 date system
option on my PC. Now the calculation is correct.

However, the originating file did not have the 1904 date system option
checked.

Does anyone know what's going on. this is posing prblems for file sharing.
