Default reference with variable row number ?

I'm trying to lookup a vector ( Bx:Sx )
in which x is a number stored in another cell, say Cell A1..

I was trying something like: LOOKUP ( 1, B(A1):S(A1), B1:S1)
which, of course does not work...^___^

So can I ask how can I reference a cell with the row number being a variable?
