Default Date formating

I needed to data entry pages and pages of dates, how can I format a dates
without typing the (/) symbol, typing this symbols really slows me down. For
example: 102006 (for october 20, 2006), I wanted this to show as 10/20/06
just by typing 102006. Why do I get 4/11/79 as the answer when using date
format (3/14/01) on the format tab menu? Please help.

Default Date formating

Check out this link for quick entry...

http://www.cpearson.com/excel/DateTimeEntry.htm

Dates are stored in Excel as numbers based on the number of days elapsed
since Jan 0, 1900 (known as the epoch). So when you type in 31401 that
translates to 31,401 days since the epoch which is 4/11/79.
