In the Contextures example for €˜Data Validation -- Dependent Dropdowns from a
Sorted List what if there were several people with the same name from different regions? Can you make a €˜NameList €˜ and refer to it the same way as €˜RegionList and still have the dropdowns be dependent? I have three columns of data where values are repeated in each. This results in multiple drop down options on occasions where there should only be one. I greatly appreciate any advice you may have on fixing this. Dalgleish's website is great! Thank you, in advance. |

In that example, the Region column is sorted, and the list of valid
names for each region appears in the cell with dependent data validation. You could change it so the list is sorted by name, and show valid regions for each name. If that's not what you meant, perhaps you can give an example of what you're trying to do. mcmanusb wrote: In the Contextures example for €˜Data Validation -- Dependent Dropdowns from a Sorted List what if there were several people with the same name from different regions? Debra-the-Wise,
Here's a portion of what I'm working with. There are repeated values in each of the first three columns which is creating problems I don't understand how to fix. It's important that the 'Mgr' be the first choice and that 'Num' and 'Fee' are last. Is is possible to create dependent dropdowns for these columns? Mgr Prod Class Num Fee Cambiar Large Cap Value US Large Value 276 0.75 Dana Large Cap Equity US Large Core 167 0.50 Dana Small Cap Equity US Small Core 166 0.50 Diamond Large Cap Value US Large Value 246 0.60 Diamond Small Cap Value US Small Core 247 0.80 Eagle International Equity Non US Equity 178 0.60 Johnston International Equity Non US Equity 235 0.80 Lotsoff Large Cap Equity US Large Core 241 0.40 Lotsoff Small Cap Equity US Small Core 110 0.50 WCM Small Cap Value US Small Core 225 1.50 I apologize if this is too involved and greatly appreciate your response. Thank you. "Debra Dalgleish" wrote: In that example, the Region column is sorted, and the list of valid names for each region appears in the cell with dependent data validation. Based on your sample data, I've add a sample file that has dependent
validation lists for product and class: http://www.contextures.com/excelfiles.html Under Data Validation, look for 'DV0044 - Dependent Cell List Multiple Offset' I'm not sure if it's exactly what you needed, but may help you get started. mcmanusb wrote: Debra-the-Wise, Here's a portion of what I'm working with. Debra--Thank you so much! It works perfectly, of course.
