Default Problem with links not working correctly in spreadsheet

Hi

We have a range of links in spreadsheets that are not working correctly.

Below is an example of a link, that is exactly the same, displayed in two
ways.

=-'\\sydfp03\finance\FP&A\P&L\[BUDGET P&L VALUES.xls]Mgt 08'!$AO$55
=-'G:\FP&A\P&L\[BUDGET P&L VALUES.xls]Mgt 08'!$AO$55

When a linked spreadsheet is opened by clicking the cell that is referenced,
for example, the first way, it will see that the spreadsheet is open, and
update accordingly.

However, if there is a link that appears in the second format, it does not
see that that file is open, nor will it update.

This works in both cases, i.e the linked spreadsheet is opened via the
second format, link that appears in the first format will not be seen to be
open, or update.

If we create 2 fresh workbooks, link to the same cell in the 2 different
manners, the problem is replicated so isn't spreadsheet, network drive, or
any thing else, specific...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
