Default copying conditional formats

I am trying to to set up a "Formula is" conditional format and when I try to
copy the formula down, the cell location does not automatically adjust. The
same cell location I used in the initial cell copies down to all the others.
Sometimes it works and more often it does not. I am using copy/paste
special/formats.

Also, I am pulling a text file into excel, would this make a difference?

Thank you.

remove $ from your formula in conditional formating then copy formats.

Hi

Make sure that your 'Formula Is' contains relative rather than absolute
references - ie, does not have any dollar signs.

Hope this helps.
Andy.

I do not have $ in my "formula is" and it still does not copy properly.

i think you first enter this formula for a single cell then you copy the
format down.
you should first select the range of column where you want to apply
this formula then enter formula in conditional formatting. however it
works fine even entering in single cell then coping downward. I have
applied it in single cell then copied format in below cells it updated
the referred cells automatically.

I am still not able to get this function to work. I have tried opening a new
worksheet and randomly adding numbers (some that duplicate) and it still will
not work. I am using excel 2003. Is there an add-on I may be missing?
