Default show formulas

occasionally i get a spreadsheet that acts as if the show formula
feature is on but when i go to turn it off the formulas still show
up ?? is there a setting I'm missing somewhere....xl 2010, thanks

Perhaps the cells were formatted as Text when the formulas were entered.
Even if the format was subsequently changed to General or a numeric format,
the cell contents would remain as text until the cells are "re-edited"
(typically by pressing F2, then Enter).
