Default Formulas that show up as text

Sometimes I type a formula and instead of being calculated, it is displayed
as a string of text. The same formula in another cell of the same sheet shows
the expected and natural behavior. Any logical reason behind that weird
behavior?

Thanks, Stefano

The cell is probably pre-formatted as text. Select the cell and use
Format | Cells | Number (tab) and select General. Then re-enter your
formula, or double-click the cell as if to edit the formula then press
Enter for the formatting change to take effect.

Hope this helps.
