Default PING: ANYONE PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

I know this is not a project group but the project group seems to have
gone over the rainbow. If anyone can please help me out with this issue

I am using Project 2007 and I have a dilemma with the way my task are set
up.

In gantt chart view entry table selected i created a "job #" custom
field. That all works great.

When I switch over to resource Usage view, with Usage table selected, I
cannot link to the custom field on the task side.

I tried using WBS and I have several projects consolidated so my
numbering system with WBS did not work at all with the consolidated
projects

I tried using another custom field on the resource side and use a formula
to retrieve the job # field but to no avail. I believe that would be
possible if i knew the table naming scheme and the query naming scheme.
It seems like this software is much like Access database so it seems
there should be some way to accomplish this task.

I know I can enter the job number on every "task name" record but i copy
paste most of these from excel spreadsheets generated from other
software. the job number is always going to be in a different field.
That would be very inefficient

The reason I need this is we run several "jobs" at the same time and
several of the operations have the same task name. So when I view the
resource usage, my "welder 1" resource may have 50 tasks and 20 of them
may be named "weld mounting bracket" Since all the mounting brackets are
job specific he MUST know which job number that task is associated with,
i.e. "#8625 weld mounting bracket"

Please post or email a solution or suggestion or let me know if what I am
trying to accomplish is just impossible so I will at least know to quit
wasting my time. My Email is:

Thank You

JS

PS: if I don't see a response fairly soon I am going to cross post this
into an Access NG and an Excel NG as they seem to have much more activity
Please, I need this badly so i hope no one is offended.

I can see your posts..........3 today.............over in the
Microsoft.Public.Project newsgroup.

Perhaps if you waited a while you might get some response.

Although it does look like mostly questions and no answers in that group.

This is an Excel group so your chances of getting good response is slim but who
knows??
