It looks to me like you didn't include the extension. .xls ...etc. If
that doesn't work, come back.

I think I'd do something like this

Dim myWB as excel.workbook

on error resume next
Set myWB = Workbooks.Open Filename:=Fl & "\" & fname
on error goto 0

if mywb is nothing then
Msgbox("Workbook not opened.")
End
End if
