Hello,
I have an app that is VB6 front-end and Excel/Word VBA back-end that I am going to market to businesses. After doing some initial research I still have some questions about the necessity and usage of digital certificates to pass muster with Excel macro security. 1. Will I definitely need to use digital certificates or is there another way around that? I saw one article which seemed to suggest that if you put macros in the Excel startup folder (believe XLStartup) that they would be passable. Someone else suggesting porting the Excel VBA code to VB6 but am limited on time and was concerned would need to use automation and perhaps slow performance. And as understand MS Self Cert is only for testing or using on one's own system, right? 2. In a post someone expressed concern that with a digital cert hackers could crack your code. Is this an issue particurly if you use a password in the VBE plus a good code security system? 3. A MS KB article seemed to imply that to get a commercial digital cert you had to have a Dun & Bradstreet rating which believe costs. Is that right? Do you have to be a corporation or can a sole proprietorship obtain one (the commercial DC)? I saw there was an individual certificate but that seemed to be for perhaps contract developers, and didn't seem to convey a professional appearance for companies. 4. Can anyone recommend digital certificate authority to buy from that has good prices and is good to work with? I've heard of a free one but it seemed cumbersome and not too professional-looking when I looked into it. Any help appreciated, thanks, God bless, Van |
