Source info deleted but chart still shows
Dear All
I have a 30 days info in one sheet and a chart based on this source. When the month is over I delete the contents but the graph still shows in the chart. The way I am doing is to go to the chart-source and delete the source range and re-enter same, then the chart gets cleared. Can anyone tell me how to do in VB so that the source sheet contents are deleted? (excel 97) brgds/captgnvr |

Source info deleted but chart still shows
Hi,
Try turning on Automatic recalculation - Tools, Options, Calculation, Automatic. Or press F9 after you clear the data. Question - if you are going to put new data in the data area why do you care if the chart clears or not if when you add the new data the chart is updated? Besides, why clear the data, why not just type over it with the new data? -- Thanks, Shane Devenshire "CAPTGNVR" wrote: Dear All I have a 30 days info in one sheet and a chart based on this source. Thank you Shane for quick response.
It is on automatic calculation. Hvr, wl try pressing F(. I did not try the chart after putting the new data. I just saw after erasing the data the chart was still showing and so wanted to find out. I have to clear the data after the month is over and enter daily information and see the chart-- (it is like oil tanks temperatures) Thnks n brgds/captgnvr "ShaneDevenshire" wrote: Hi, Try turning on Automatic recalculation - Tools, Options, Calculation, Automatic. I am not sure how you maintain your chart, but the displayed values on the
chart are based on the values in the data range series. If you clear the data range series, then the chart should automatically go to zero for each data series. I do understand that you update the temperature readings daily and enter them into a worksheet, from which the chart draws its data. But I don't know how you have your data series set up in the chart itself. i.e. If it draws directly from the range where you enter the readings, or if there are calcultions that occur and perhaps post to another range on the worksheet. But you can right-click on the plotted lines, or bars, on the chart and select Source Data, Then click the Series Tab and at the bottom of the dialog box it lists the data series by name. You can select the series you want to look at it will show in a window to the right, which worksheet and range the data comes from that causes the chart to plot. Don't change any of that data unless you know for sure what you are doing. It will screw up your plots. Maybe this will help you to understand what is happening.
