Default excel 2007 saveas

Hello,
I have excel 2007.
In code, I am opening an xlt file with macros, and then doing a saveas to an
..xlsm file.
I need to have the template an xlt file. because i am sharing with 2003.

Now when I saveas, a dialog pops up asking if I want to save as a non macro
file.

Why is this happening? I am saving as an xlsm file.

the file gets saved as .xlsm.
But it does not seem like macros can run if i open the file as xlt?

So
I am trying to open an xlt file (with macros).
do a saveas to xlsm
then i call a method in that xlsm file.
then i save and close.

any work arounds?
