Default refresh data from MS Access DB not picking up changes to criteria

Hi, I hope someone can help
I have a fairly basic spreadsheet which loads data from an MS Access query.
It set up OK and if I change underlying data in the Access table, the refresh
works OK and reflects these changes. However I have had to modify the Access
query to exclude a number of records (by changing the criteria) and although
the refresh still picks up changes to the underlying data (change of name for
example) it still includes those records which should now be excluded. It is
as if the query has not been modified.

Has anyone any suggestions

Default refresh data from MS Access DB not picking up changes to criteria

per my experience, i have found when modifing the source query, it is better
to delete the MSQ and recreate it based on the new modified query.

Default refresh data from MS Access DB not picking up changes to crite

Hi,

Thank you for your response.

I tried as you suggested. Have also deleted the original access query and
rewritten it with a different name. I also tried importing the data into a
brand new workbook, but for some reason it is still importing the original
data set, i.e ignoring the additional criteria in the access query. The
access query shows 26 records, but excel imports 29.

I have also tried moving the criteria to apply to a different field (i.e.
one that is not reported) but I still get the 29 records.

I have also deleted the data source but to no avail.

Finally I tried writing a completely different access query as a test, but
using the same data and then modified the query criteria and this produced
the same result on refresh, i.e. ignoring the criteria change.

This says to me that either I am missing something fundamental or there is
some sort of issue with excel reading access queries - does it store some
element of the query in some way which is not overwritten with a change to
the access query for example?

Do you have any other ideas? This is really frustrating!

Many thanks
