Default Automatic conversion

I use the xmlHttpRequest (ajax) object to request XML data from a
website. The returned data contains dates formatted as strings (dd-mm-
yyyy). When I put this into cells, my English Excel version doesn't
recognise the input as dates. Apparently it expects a mm-dd-yyyy
format, although the regional settings of Windows are set to dd-mm-
yyyy. What can I do to fix this?
