Default Saving date created with =Today()?

I have a sheet where I use =Today() to fill in the date field when the
sheet is created. When the sheet is saved then reopened at some
future time the date field gets changed to the current date. How do I
automatically fill in the date cell when the sheet is first created
and maintain that same date when the sheet is opened for editing at a
future time?
