Newcomers' Newsgroup Etiquette
Newcomers,
Do not post your question several times. Post your question in one newsgroup and wait for a reply. A wait time of 15 minutes would be very lucky. Typically wait 30-60 minutes before expecting a reply. Remember that your post has to be received by Google, indexed, and posted on the newsgroup. This can take several minutes. In addition, many programmers will test their solution before sending it to you. This can take another half-hour or an hour, meaning it may be an hour or more before you hear any advise. After you post your question, be patient! Close your newsgroup reader, do other things, and return 15-60 minutes later. Look for your post and notice if there are other posts under it. The best thing is to just close your newsgroup reader and do other things for 15-30 minutes after posting, then open it again and look for your post. You will be able to tell whether anyone has replied. If not, close the newsgroup reader and wait 1-3 more hours. Posting multiple messages does not help you. Post one message and wait for the reply. Good luck! James |
