Default 1 col has cells w/an H or C, tally cells for Hs and cells for Cs

a col. has either an H or C in the cells. The corresponding rows have
numeric values in each cell. How do I tally the value for the numbers with H
and the value for cells with a C in the column (H and C are in a column to
the left of the numberic rows for cells).

Tink, try this, with h or c in column A and numbers in column B

=SUMIF(A1:A10,"H",B1:B10)
=SUMIF(A1:A10,"C",B1:B10)
