![]() First, I need to know if you can set a conditionnal formatting based o the data in a cell other than the cell you are formatting. I have two columns: one is, for instance, indicating the type of dat (Req, Info or Guide). I wish for the cell right to it, in the nex column, be formatted accordingly. (Patterns if the cell on the left i blank or "Info", and a validation arrow if the cell on the left i "Req" or "Guide"). I also wish for the cell to be red if "no" is selected for this sam validation arrow. (If I can apply the precedeeg settings, I guess thi one is just plain simple conditional formatting...) Please help me: my project is on hold until I find the most practica way to apply those settings automatically (It needs to be applied t any added row or data without additional formatting) -- Turquoise_da ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Turquoise_dax's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...fo&userid=3518 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=55457 |

Yes you can, use the condition setting 'formula is' and enter the formula
for the test in the panel to the right. All in the conditional formatting dialog. e.g. Formula looks like this...... =A1="Req" The cell with the condition is then set based on cell A1 having the text Req etc. The colours and format can be set within the conditional formatting dialog together with two other conditions -- Cheers Nigel "Turquoise_dax" wrote in message news:Turquoise_dax.29t611_1150987512.1673@excelfor um-nospam.com... ![]() Anyone can tell me how? (Thanx, I know the question was "Is it possible", but obviously, if ask, I don't know how.... -- Turquoise_da ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Turquoise_dax's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...fo&userid=3518 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=55457 |

![]() I know this works, but I need to make it general (say, with an "update" button and a macro...) because if I do it like this, an a row is added, the cells all need to be individually set with the "conditionnal formatting" tool.... I was thinking of a macro like this, with if: Dim cell As Range For Each cell In Range("B:B") If cell = "Info" Then *ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).Fill.Patterned msoPattern50Percent* (Need to correct: not working...) If cell = "Req" Then ActiveCell.Offset(0, 1).*(Just how the hell so I say I want a validation arrow with the needed list?)* Next or something like that.... but my syntax is not right....need help! -- Turquoise_dax ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Turquoise_dax's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=35185 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=554579 |

Your original posted asked if it was possible - the answer is yes, if you
knew that then that obviously was not the question. Now you need some VBA. Try recording the macro as you set up your conditional formatting - that will give you some clues -- Cheers Nigel "Turquoise_dax" wrote in message news:Turquoise_dax.29t7ez_1150989306.8141@excelfor um-nospam.com...
