is there a way to make dates simply be read as text?

is there a way to make dates simply be read as text?
The Excel function "TEXT" might work for you (which I believe can be
used in VBA). In the following form TEXT(NOW(),"mm-dd-yyyy"), you will get a date of 06-06-2006 in text format.
