Default Excel shared file problem

We share an excel file and very often while saving, it crashes. It's three
of us that are using the file. The file is on the network, mapped drive.
There are also many external links.

What can the cause for crashing be? The mapped drive maybe, or something
else? We all have RAM memory of 512 MB, but don't use the same Office.

Thanks

i had this probelm and cured it by making the workbook save at short
intervals,,,,

it seemed more likly to crash when a lot of data had been altered , esp by 2
or more users, and more specifically if rows had been added or deleted

File Sharing in Excel on a Network is a recipe for disaster. Don't do it.
MS has never quite figured out how to handle multiple users with the same
file particularly at the same time: whose version is to be considered the
correct one.

If you and an associate both have a file open, you edit and save yours, then
your associate saves. Your work will be lost ! etc.

Relational databases are much better with this kind of issue.
