Default Excel Drop down List with Named Range

What i want to create is a Drop down list using a named range (no
problems there); however, the value i want inserted is not what is
displayed(in the name range but a different value) let me give an
example.

Named Range: (exactly what is seen in the drop down)
APP - Apple
BAN - Banana
ORA - Orange

Lets us A1 as the cell with the drop down in it.

the user clicks on the drop down arrow (in Cell A1) and sees these 3
options (ok no problem thus far). the user picks "APP - Apple" the
VALUE i want in A1 is "APP".

so the Drop down displays one thing but another value is inserted.

Any thoughts?
